Beginner's seminar: Slope failure analyses
This seminar consists of 2 half-day modules.
The basics of slope failure analyses according to DIN 4084, EC 7/DIN 1054 and the functionalities of the program GGU-STABILITY are explained.
Using practical examples, various embankment systems are converted into calculation models and analysed.
The following contents are covered:
- Limit state - mechanics - kinematics (basics)
- Failure mechanisms, circular and polygonal failure/slip bodies
- Actions E (dead and live loads, tension members, water pressure)
- Resistances R (soil properties)
- Basic functions and program settings
- System structure with the definition of soil stratification, soil properties, loads
- Simple water pressure approaches
- Slope failure analysis using slip circles (variation of centre points and of slip surface radii)
- Slope failure analysis using slip bodies (Janbu, vertical slice method and general wedge method)
- Slip body variations
- Evaluation of the calculations, utilisation factors, contours, most unfavourable slip circle, force polygon, displacement diagram
- Introduction to the functions of the integrated Mini-CAD modules

Requirements/knowledge:
- Basic knowledge of geotechnics, EC 7, DIN 4084
- Own laptop with pre-installed GGU programs
(Training licenses are provided by us free of charge) - A second screen, headset (headphones with microphone) and a stable internet connection with sufficient bandwidth for the video conference
